San Juan Regional Medical Center has agreed to settle with individuals who claimed their personal information was exposed in a data breach identified Sept. 8, 2020.
Class members include all individuals whose personal identifying information or health information was compromised in the Sept. 8, 2020, cyberattack.
A subclass has been established, consisting of individuals who received a notice from San Juan Regional Medical Center that their personal information was exposed.
Patients filed a class action lawsuit against San Juan Regional Medical Center asserting the healthcare provider did not do enough to protect patients’ data from exposure in the event of a data breach. San Juan Medical Center does not admit to any wrongdoing in response to these claims, but the healthcare provider has agreed to settle with plaintiffs in the interest of avoiding the costs and risks of continued litigation. The following patient information was potentially exposed in the breach:
- Drivers license number
- Passport number
- Social Security number
- Financial account number
- Health information
- Name
- Date of birth
- Other information
