NYC Jail Visitor Invasive Search Class Action LawsuitIndividuals who attempted to visit an inmate at a New York City Department of Correction facility between Nov. 23, 2012 and Oct. 30, 2019 and were subject to an invasive search, may be eligible for a potential award of $4,000 from the NYC Jail Visitor Invasive Search Class Action Settlement!

According to the lawsuit, the New York Department of Correction facilities would perform invasive searches on visitors by more than accidentally or incidentally touch or expose their breasts, buttocks, or genitals. Additionally, females were allegedly asked to expose, remove, or display their feminine hygiene products.

  • Claim Form Deadline: April 27, 2020
  • Who’s Eligible: Individuals who attempted to visit an inmate at a New York City Department of Correction facility between Nov. 23, 2012 and Oct. 30, 2019 and were subject to an invasive search.
  • Estimated Amount: Cash payments of about $4,000
    • Those caught with contraband during one of these invasive searches will only receive $500, unless during another visit they were not arrested
    • For each payment of $500, another $500 will be re-distributed to those eligible for $4,000 payments
    • If more than $12.5 million in claims are made, Class Members may receive less than $4,000
